New PPE & CE MARKINGSSince 1 July 1995, new PPE needs to be 'CE' marked in accordance with the requirements of the amended Personal Protective Equipment (EC Directive) Regulations 1992. A CE mark signifies that the PPE satisfies certain basic safety requirements & in most cases will have been type-tested & certified by an independent body. All PPE. at work, including clothing for protection against adverse weather, should be certified with the letters CE followed by the Category of Approval. Categories are:
In addition the garment or product label should show (where possible): Manufacturer's designation Aftercare instructions Need to refer to manufacturer's information sheet Level of protection offered shown by performance number Please Note: Non-CE-marked PPE supplied before 30 June 1995 can continue to be used after that date providing it still offers adequate protection.
