ARE YOU BEING EXPOSED TO RISKS OR IS YOUR EMPLOYER FAILING IN HIS LEGAL DUTIES?

If you think your employer is exposing you to risks or is not carrying out his/her legal duties & you have pointed this out without getting a satisfactory response, you can contact the HSE or your Local Authority if the your place of work in is inspected by them. CLICK HERE TO FOR DETAILS OF YOUR REGIONAL HSE OFFICE

Any contact you have with the HSE will be treated in the strictest confidence. Before any follow up is undertaken it the HSE will require as much information as possible.  Remember that the HSE may on occasions advise that they don't think anything needs to be done.

If the HSE does investigate or visit your workplace, they will not identify you as a complainant to your employer unless you have said you don't mind. After they have made their enquiries they will let you know what they have found & whether anything has to be done.

If you believe that your work may be affecting your health, you should first discuss your concerns with your manager or occupational health doctor or nurse if available. Your trade union representative or safety representative may also be able to help you. Where a specific medical condition has caused problems at work you should seek advice from your GP.

If these people cannot help you then you can contact the HSE or the Local Authority depending on the type of workplace.

If you are a member of the public & think you have been harmed by a work activity or have noticed something you consider dangerous, contact the HSE or the Local Authority if the work is covered by them. They will need as much information as possible & remember that if you want the HSE to keep you informed of their progress you will need to provide your address & phone number. They will keep you in touch with what is happening & in almost every case they will get back to you by letter or telephone within 10 working days
